Golf Formats

Tee-Off Formats:
In addition to individual tee times, Bala Golf Club follows two tee-off formats:
Shotgun Start
All golfers tee off at the same time on different holes throughout the
course and outing participants will be escorted out to their starting hole
by the Bala Golf Club staff. Two foursomes may tee off on the same
hole if needed. Typically, all golfers will finish their round at the
same time with this option. The course is closed to public play.
Modified Shotgun
Similar to a shotgun, a Modified Shotgun start allows an outing to
follow a shotgun format while keeping the course open to public play.
Play Formats:
Better Ball
In a Better Ball outing, every player on the team plays their own ball. The
lowest score among all the team members at the end of each hole is
counted as the team score for that hole; the other scores are thrown out.
Best Shot/Scramble
Every player tees off on each hole, and the best shot is selected. All players
play their second shots from the location of the selected best shot and
continue selecting the best shot until the ball is put in the hole.
Alternate Shot
Two-player teams take turns hitting the same ball. One person will tee off, the
next person will hit the next shot and so on. Tee shots are alternate regardless
of who hits last on the previous hole.
Individual Play
This format is similar to playing a typical round of golf; each person
hits their own ball and keeps their own score.
